About Our Research Team

Our multidisciplinary team brings together expertise in sleep research, pediatric health, environmental health, nutrition, and epidemiology. We are committed to understanding sleep patterns and their health implications for Mexican children and adolescents.

Dr. Erica Jansen

University of Michigan School of Public Health

Role: Sleep Research Lead

Experience: Over 10 years in pediatric sleep and nutrition research

Expertise: Sleep patterns, dietary influences on sleep, adolescent health

Focus: Leading sleep research initiatives within the ELEMENT study, investigating relationships between sleep, diet, and metabolic health in Mexican youth.

Dr. Karen Peterson

Role: Principal Investigator for ELEMENT

Experience: Over 20 years in nutritional epidemiology

Expertise: Nutritional epidemiology, maternal and child health, Mexico-based research

Focus: Overseeing the ELEMENT study's comprehensive approach to understanding environmental and nutritional factors affecting child development and health.

Dr. Mara Tellez-Rojo
